At Foremost Builders, we take pride in handling every step of your project 100% in-house. Over the years, we’ve worked hard to develop our unique process, which involves:

The Foremost Story

Foremost Builders is solely owned by Dave Clarenbach and has been in business in the Lake Sunapee area since 1997. Dave started doing small projects for friends and acquaintances on nights and weekends while working a 40-hour week for his employers from 1989 to 1996.

In 1997, Dave had saved up enough money, sold his snowmobile to buy his first computer, and got enough work on the books to take the leap and make Foremost Builders his full-time gig.

Since then, the company has grown into a full-service design/build remodeling company proudly serving the Dartmouth/Lake Sunapee area.

From 1997 through 2003, Dave handled all the sales and the management of the company on nights and weekends while building the projects with his team Monday through Friday.

In 2003, Foremost Builders had lots of new and existing customers calling to have small projects done, and our staff was tied up on many large projects going on at the time. The need to start a handyperson division was clear, and we added handyperson services to our offerings.

In 2004, Dave hired his first design/estimator and started focusing on design/build. This eliminated the competitive bid aspect, and the company was able to significantly grow year over year and achieve greater profitability.

In 2009, the remodeling industry was hit hard by the recession, and Foremost Builders went from having 11 employees to just three. Working on Dave’s home and small projects for existing clients got us through those rough times.

In 2013, with the handyperson service still being profitable and needed in our area, Dave decided it was time to give the service a more professional name and to get away from the “old guy in a truck” image — and First Homecare & Repair was born.

At the end of 2017, we saw an increase in sales and decided it was time to reinvest in the business. We’ve continued to grow by 10% to 30% YOY but have done so organically, adding the right team members and hand-picking our ideal clients.
